Setup Issues

“git is not recognized” or “git command not found”

Section titled ““git is not recognized” or “git command not found””

Git is not installed, and that is fine. The deployment prompt tries three methods. If Git is unavailable it downloads the files another way. You do not need Git to use the system.

If you want it for later (backups, syncing between computers): Windows · Mac. Use the default settings. Close and reopen your editor afterwards.

Git tracks changes to files and downloads code from the internet. Think track-changes in Word, but for code.

You do not need to know what it is or how it works. The deployment prompt handles everything. You will never type a Git command yourself.

No. The files live on GitHub, but downloading them needs no account. If something prompted you to create one, that was not required. If you already made one, no harm.

The only time you would need one is backing up to the cloud or syncing between computers — see Backing Up Your System. Optional, and separate from setup.

Mac: a “command line developer tools” popup appeared and froze

Section titled “Mac: a “command line developer tools” popup appeared and froze”

This is an Xcode developer tools prompt. It sometimes appears the first time the system tries to use Git on a Mac.

If the Install button works: click Install, then Agree. Let it finish — several minutes. Plug in to power if prompted. Do not close the window.

If the window is frozen: another dialog may be hiding behind it. Click around your screen, or use Command-Tab. If nothing works, Apple menu → Force Quit → “Install Command Line Developer Tools” → force quit it. Then return to Claude Code and tell it to continue; it will try another method.

If the install fails entirely: go back to the chat and say continue or try another method. There are fallbacks that do not need developer tools at all.

If this popup appeared, plug your laptop in. Mac sometimes refuses to install developer tools on battery.

Check the URL. It should be exactly https://github.com/lesixcompanies/90mm-real-estate-bos.git. If you copied it from a document, check for stray spaces or characters.

If the URL is right and it still fails, the system falls back to a ZIP download automatically.

Rare, since the repository is public. The system will fall back to ZIP.

To fix Git authentication for future use: install GitHub CLI (winget install GitHub.cli on Windows, brew install gh on Mac), then run gh auth login.

Clone fails: “destination path already exists”

Section titled “Clone fails: “destination path already exists””

The folder is not empty. Either you already ran setup — in which case you are done, just open Claude Code and start — or there are files from a previous attempt.

To start fresh: empty the folder, or create a new one, and try again.

That is fine, you just have two extras. Pick one — VS Code if unsure — and ignore the rest.

To remove them: Mac — Finder → Applications → drag to Trash. Windows — Settings → Apps → Uninstall.

I can’t find the app after downloading it (Mac)

Section titled “I can’t find the app after downloading it (Mac)”

Downloads go to your Downloads folder. Open Finder, click Downloads, look for the .dmg or .app. For VS Code it will be named something like “Visual Studio Code.”

Double-click to open the disk image, drag the app icon into Applications, then find it in Launchpad (the rocket icon) or with Spotlight (Command-Space).

VS Code shows “Sign in failed” on first open

Section titled “VS Code shows “Sign in failed” on first open”

Ignore it. VS Code tries to sync settings with a Microsoft account on first launch. You do not need that. Close the notification.

The only sign-in that matters is Claude Code’s.

Make sure you searched for “Claude Code” — not “Claude”, not “Anthropic”. If it is installed but invisible, restart your editor. If it still does not appear, check your editor is up to date.

Claude Code says I need a paid subscription

It does. Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise. Go to claude.ai, sign in, subscribe, then sign in again through the extension.

“I’m not technical — is this too advanced?”

Section titled ““I’m not technical — is this too advanced?””

If you can install an app, create a folder, and copy-paste text, you can do this.

The setup steps involve installing a few programs and pasting a prompt. The diagnostic itself is just a conversation about your business — nothing technical about that part. If you get stuck on any step, Claude Code will tell you what to do next.

Setup seems stuck — nothing is happening

Section titled “Setup seems stuck — nothing is happening”

It is probably waiting on you:

  • A permission prompt at the bottom — click Yes or Allow
  • A question in the chat — answer it and press Enter
  • An error message — read it and follow the instructions, or type continue

If none of that applies and it is genuinely frozen, type continue or what's the status?. Claude Code picks up where it left off.
