Finding Your Way Around the Editor
I can’t find Claude Code in my editor
Section titled “I can’t find Claude Code in my editor”Look at the left sidebar — the narrow vertical strip of icons. Claude Code’s icon is a sparkle or star, usually near the bottom. Click it to open the panel.
If it is not there, the extension may not be installed. Click the Extensions icon (four squares) and search “Claude Code”.
Where are my conversations?
Section titled “Where are my conversations?”Click the Claude Code icon. Your history is listed there, each conversation titled by what you discussed. Click any to reopen, or click New Session for a fresh one.
Conversations save automatically. You do not need to do anything to preserve them.
How do I get back to my system after closing the editor?
Section titled “How do I get back to my system after closing the editor?”- Open your editor — Launchpad on Mac, Start menu on Windows
- If your project folder is not already open: File → Open Folder, and select it
- Click the Claude Code icon
- Click a previous conversation, or start a new session
The system remembers everything between sessions. You never re-explain your business or your context — it reads your files automatically when a conversation starts.
What are all these icons on the left?
Section titled “What are all these icons on the left?”The three that matter:
File Explorer (top, two pages) — the files and folders in your project. This is where you can see everything the system has created: context, pipeline, processes.
Claude Code (sparkle/star) — the chat panel. Where you will spend nearly all your time.
Extensions (four squares) — where you installed Claude Code. You probably will not need it again.
The rest are editor features you can ignore.
